WASHINGTON, DC., May 21st, 2024 –SIECUS: Sex Ed for Social Change was mentioned in an article featured in the reputable British owned publication, The Guardian, titled ‘Meet Baby Olivia’: spate of new bills would require showing anti-abortion video in schools‘.

The article, written by Betsy Reed, an Editor at the Guardian US, references the SIECUS State Profiles and its grading system (Report Card). It’s no surprise that none of the states that have passed the Baby Olivia bill like West Virginia and Iowa, or introduced the regressive legislation like Hawaii, Kentucky and Michigan are ranked above a C grade.

In the past, SIECUS has condemned the Baby Olivia bill due to the medically inaccurate and misleading messaging behind the bill. The 60 year old Sex Ed advocacy organization vehemently disagrees that viewing an ultrasound video is a good practice when teaching sex ed- which they mention their National Sex Ed Standards.
